Prof. Zuhier Awan is a distinguished physician-scientist and academic leader with extensive expertise in lipid metabolism, cardiovascular disease prevention, and molecular medicine. He earned his medical degree from King Abdulaziz School of Medicine, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and Medical Biochemistry at McGill University. He further completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Genetics and a fellowship in Preventive Cardiology and Advanced Clinical Lipidology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

Prof. Awan holds fellowships with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Endocrinology. He is board-certified in both Canada (Medical Biochemistry/Clinical Investigator) and the United States (Clinical Lipidology). Additionally, he has received specialized training in Medical Education and Forensic Toxicology in the United States.

His research focuses on familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) management, cardiovascular disease prevention, metabolic syndrome, and the role of proprotein convertases (PCSK9) in human diseases. Prof. Awan has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and has been cited more than 4,000 times. He currently serves as the President of the Saudi Society for Laboratory Medicine, where he leads initiatives to advance laboratory medicine practices and education in Saudi Arabia.
